Ruaha is the largest national park in Tanzania and one of the least visited for its size. It lies in the south, centred on the Great Ruaha River, in a transition zone where eastern and southern African species overlap.
That overlap gives Ruaha unusual variety: both greater and lesser kudu, large elephant populations, and some of the biggest lion prides in East Africa. The low visitor numbers mean you often have sightings to yourself.
Ruaha is for travellers who want a genuine wilderness with space and quiet. It is more remote than the north — and that is precisely the appeal.
