About This Trip
The honeymoon trip that earns the word "honeymoon."
Most safari + beach combo packages are designed for general travelers and then sold to honeymooners with a few flowers added. This one is built the other way around — designed for couples from the start, with the small details that actually matter on a honeymoon.
You'll have a private safari vehicle the entire time — never sharing with strangers, never compromising on game-drive pace. The vehicle is decorated with flowers and a "Just Married" banner on Day 1 if you want it (we ask first). Your safari lodges are premium-tier with private decks or sunset-facing rooms. There is one candlelit dinner in the bush on a Serengeti plain — an experience you arrange in advance with the lodge, where dinner is served by lantern light with no other guests present.
The Zanzibar portion takes you to Nungwi on the north coast — the area with the calmest, swimmable beaches at all tides, and the most boutique beach resorts. Five nights is enough to actually unwind, not just check in and out. You can stay at the same hotel the whole time, or split between two if you want variety. Either way, you're not on a tour anymore by Day 8 — you're on holiday.
"Twelve days is the right length for a honeymoon. Ten feels rushed by Day 8. Fourteen starts to feel like work. Twelve is when the trip earns its name."

The 12-Day Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival in Arusha · Welcome and recovery
- Altitude: 1,400m
- Driving: ~1 hour from JRO
- Overnight: Arusha hotel
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our driver meets you in the arrivals hall — for honeymooners, the welcome includes a small bouquet and chilled drinks in the vehicle. Transfer to your Arusha hotel, about an hour through coffee plantations and small villages.
Afternoon free to rest after the long flights. Most honeymooners arrive jet-lagged, so we keep Day 1 deliberately quiet — pool, gardens, an early dinner at the hotel. Your safari guide meets you in the evening for a brief introduction and to answer any questions before tomorrow.
Meals
Lunch and dinner at hotel
Accommodation
Mount Meru Hotel or similar (4-star)
Today's highlight
First proper sleep after the flights — and the realization that you're really here
Day 2 — Arusha → Tarangire National Park · Elephants and your first game drive
- Driving: ~2.5 hours
- Game drives: afternoon and sunset
After breakfast, your private safari vehicle and guide collect you for the drive to Tarangire National Park. The route passes through Masai land — you’ll see roadside cattle markets and traditional villages along the way, with the occasional Maasai elder herding goats by the road.
Tarangire is famous for two things: the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania (often 100+ animals visible at the Tarangire River in dry season), and the ancient baobab trees that give the park its character. Afternoon game drive into the park, with sundowner drinks watching the herds move down to the river. Back to the lodge for dinner.

Today's highlight
First elephant herd — usually within the first hour in the park
Day 3 — Lake Manyara National Park · Flamingos and tree-climbing lions
- Driving: ~2 hours
- Game drives: morning and afternoon
Lake Manyara is one of northern Tanzania’s most varied small parks — alkaline lakeshore filled with flamingos, dense groundwater forest at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, and the famous (though rarely-seen) tree-climbing lions for which Manyara is known.
A full day in the park: morning game drive along the lake edge with hippos and elephants, picnic lunch in a shaded grove, afternoon drive through the forested section. The contrasts here — water, forest, dry plains — make Manyara feel like several parks in one. Return to your lodge for dinner.

Today's highlight

Day 4 — Karatu → Serengeti · Across the Ngorongoro highlands
- Driving: ~5 hours through the highlands
- Afternoon game drive
A driving day through some of the most beautiful country in northern Tanzania. The route climbs through the misty highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, passing coffee farms and Maasai villages, before cresting the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater itself — your first view down into the crater, with thousands of animals visible below.
Continue on to the Serengeti via the southern plains. Afternoon game drive on arrival in the central Seronera Valley, the area with the densest predator population in Africa. You’ll likely see lions, possibly leopards, and the resident herds of zebra and wildebeest. Dinner at the lodge under stars that look impossibly close at this altitude.

Accommodation
Land of Nature Camp or similar (premium Serengeti)
Today's highlight
First view down into the Ngorongoro Crater from the rim
Day 5 — Serengeti · Full day on the plains
- Full day in the park
- Optional balloon safari at dawn
Today is the heart of the safari. A full day in the Serengeti — early morning game drive when the predators are most active, then back to the lodge for breakfast, then out again with a packed lunch to spend the cooler hours of the late afternoon following whatever sightings the radio network identifies.
This is also the day for the optional hot air balloon safari ($550–$650 per person if you choose to add it). A sunrise flight over the plains, finishing with a champagne breakfast in the bush. The most popular honeymoon upgrade for a reason.
If you opted for the bush dinner, this evening is when it happens — a private table set on the plains with lanterns, served by your guide and a small lodge crew. No other guests. Just the two of you and the Serengeti at night.
Meals
Breakfast, lunch (picnic), dinner (bush dinner option)
Accommodation
Same as Day 4
Today's highlight
The bush dinner — or the balloon — or both if you go all in
Day 6 — Serengeti → Ngorongoro Crater · The crater day
- Driving: ~4 hours to crater
- Full day in the crater
Early breakfast and the drive back to Ngorongoro. The descent into the crater is dramatic — 600 meters of switchbacks down the crater wall into what is essentially a self-contained ecosystem. Inside the 260 square kilometer crater floor live roughly 25,000 large animals, including approximately 50 critically endangered black rhinos.
This is the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa, all visible in a single day’s game drive. Lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos in the central lake, flamingos, and — with luck — black rhino. Picnic lunch by the hippo pool. Ascend the crater wall in late afternoon for your final safari-side lodge night.

Today's highlight

Day 7 — Karatu → Zanzibar · Safari ends, beach begins
- Flight: ~1 hour to Zanzibar
- Stone Town walking tour on arrival
After breakfast, drive to the nearest airstrip for the one-hour flight to Zanzibar — the moment when the safari ends and the beach begins. You’ll see the Indian Ocean as you descend into Zanzibar Airport, and the air outside the cabin is suddenly heavy with humidity and salt.
Transfer to Stone Town for an afternoon walking tour with a local guide. The UNESCO World Heritage Site at the heart of the island — twelve centuries of Swahili, Arab, Persian, and Indian culture, narrow alleys, carved wooden doors, spice markets, and a complicated history. The smell of cardamom, cloves, and saltwater is everywhere. End the day at your beach hotel as the Indian Ocean breeze takes over.

Today's highlight
Walking the carved-door alleys of Stone Town as the sunset call to prayer begins
Day 8 — Stone Town → Nungwi Beach · Settle into the north coast
- Driving: ~1 hour to Nungwi
- Beach day from afternoon
Final morning in Stone Town. Most honeymooners use it for a slow breakfast and one final walk through the alleys before the transfer north to Nungwi — the area with the calmest, swimmable beaches at all tides, and the most boutique beach resorts on the island.
Check in to the beach hotel by lunchtime. The afternoon is yours: swim, read, sleep, drink something cold. The pace of this trip changes here. From now until Day 11, there are no transfers, no early starts, and nothing on the schedule except whatever the two of you decide.

Today's highlight
The first proper swim in the Indian Ocean
Day 9 — Nungwi Beach · Slow day, optional activities
- Free day
- Optional excursions available
The first full beach day. Optional activities your hotel can arrange: snorkeling at Mnemba Atoll (the best snorkeling on Zanzibar, dolphins frequently spotted), a half-day sailing excursion on a traditional dhow, or a couples spa treatment. None are mandatory.
Most honeymooners on Day 9 do absolutely nothing — and that is exactly the right choice. The trip has earned a slow day.

Day 10 — Nungwi Beach · Sunset dhow cruise
- Free day
- Sunset dhow cruise (included)
Another beach day. By now you’ve found your rhythm — the breakfast you like, the lounger you prefer, the time of day the water feels best.
In the late afternoon, a private sunset dhow cruise departs from the beach in front of your hotel. A traditional wooden sailing boat with included drinks and small plates, the two of you and a small crew, sailing west toward the sunset for two hours. The photograph that will appear on your social media for years.

Day 11 — Nungwi Beach · Final full day
- Free day
- Last full day in Tanzania
Your last full day. Most honeymooners use it for one of three things: a couples spa treatment at the hotel, a final snorkeling trip to Mnemba, or simply more of what they’ve been doing for three days already. Pack tonight — the morning will be slower if you do.
A final beachfront dinner. The kind where you order the local catch, eat slowly, and find that you have nothing left to plan.
